A Hotei or laughing Buddha, 19th century, on a bent rosewood stand. The stand dates to the mid 20th century. This is a nicely made antique porcelain Buddha, with finely done transfers and hand painting. This is a substantial sized Buddha figure, the figure itself measuring about 9 and 1/4 inches tall (23.5cm). From a New England estate. We estimate the date to be 1880-1900, buy loosely could be dated late Qing to very early republic period. Unmarked, this was probably not an export figure but if it was predated the McKinley tariff act and so remained without any marks to indicate origin. Really great detail and expression! In excellent condition with no damage or repairs.
