We truly worked hard to restore this Chinese Box to it's former glory. Constructed about 1900, it has three sections and may have been a larger cigarette box, especially since it was carefully lined with wood to act somewhat like a humidor. It has enameled medallions brazed to the surface. Most of the medallions have Chinese characters, and the top features a colorful floral group, but the very front medallion has an archaic shou (longevity) character encircled with bats! The bats of course are a very auspicious, lucky symbol. The interior wood is dark and lovely, newly conditioned, in simply wonderful condition. We polished the exterior to a high gleam. It has substantially all of its enamels, with just a few insignificant losses, a miracle for its age! An antique box you will be proud to display; it will patina over time quite evenly now that we have properly polished it. Measures over 7 inches long, 3 inches tall and 3.75 inches deep. Excellent!
