On old pair of peacock blue foo dogs, male and female, both on box risers and under each a symbolic feature: the male with the world under foot and the female with a pup. These dogs have been made throughout the centuries as guardians of palaces and homes alike; placed at thresholds and doorways they guarded against evil attempting to enter! This very old pair dates to about 1900, and as you can see each was individually designed and molded so there are slight differences between the two. The color is extremely well matched. Each measures about 6 and 1/2 inches tall and they are free of chips, cracks and damages, but expect small firing faults and glaze runs and pits as these were from old manually controlled kilns. Late Qing dynasty - who doesn't need a little protection?
