This large rosewood carving is so detailed and well executed. He's a Han style Chinese fisherman with a bait basket and his daily catch. Note the Han style, long hair, modeled after the hairstyles that were worn before the Qing dynasty, Manchu hair styles. There are inlaid glass and shell details such as the teeth and eyes! The folds of the robes, the weaving of the basket, and the strands of hair are all carved extremely skillfully. The height of this wonderful statue is over 16 inches! Condition: all of these carvings that have any age will have some minor issues, due to the wood drying and shrinking over time. This one has a small split in the front of the base that was repaired with matching wax, and is very hard to spot. Remarkably, all of the most delicate details, such as the ropes, beard, and other fragile features are perfect. Really amazing for a wooden statue that is about 100 years old. Estimated age: circa 1900 to 1940, early republic period. Truly an heirloom piece. This is a heavy object weighing about 3.5 pounds. The best example like this you will find.
