A well carved antique snuff bottle of carnelian agate, extremely well hollowed, depicting an elder with large lingzhi mushrooms. As far back as the Waring States, these prized fungi were thought to lengthen life, even being referred to as the "mushroom of immortality". Here we see the elder holding up a giant lingzhi, with a basket holding another, and another one among the rockery and clouds. Flattened flask form, with a long neck, concave lip, and raised footrim. High domed coral and brass top and fittingly, a long brass spoon. Excellent condition with no damage or losses. Circa 1850 to 1900. Measures 7.9cm (3.1 inches) tall to the top of the stopper, bottle alone is 6.1cm (2.4 inches) tall.
