An underglaze blue on blue decorated porcelain or stoneware antique Chinese snuff bottle depicting cavorting boys and water buffalos. Tongzhi mark and period, dating the bottle rather precisely to 1862 to 1874, when the ruthless Empress Dowager Cixi really ran China (she ran China as a regent until her death in 1908). This is a pretty bottle and would have been a holdover from when people really used these bottles to hold snuff, and perhaps it was intended for just that. By the end of the 19th century taking snuff was well out of favor and snuff bottles generally were made as souvenirs or collector's items. Agate and brass coin top, spoon is intact. Really a great addition to any collection. Condition: no damage or issues. One or two tiny scratches to surface but as near to perfect as you can get for the age. From my private collection. Measures 6.9cm tall to stopper top, or 2.7 inches tall.
