Yong Shou Tien's inside painted works are found from about 1898 until about 1926. Among his favorite subjects were warrior scenes, and this bottle is a fine example of the genre. The color remains vibrant and complete, and his signature can be clearly seen on the shoulder of the bottle. He preferred larger bottles upon which he could paint many figures. As the republic period approached, snuff bottles became larger and were sold more as an artwork and as souvenirs that for the storage of snuff. Inside painted bottles were never meant as snuff containers, and sometimes didn't even feature spoons (this one does have a spoon). Yong Shou Tien is considered a middle period inside painting snuff bottle artist. The bottle measures almost 11 cm or about 4 3/8 inches tall. It is free of damage and shows almost no wear.
