It boggles the mind to think how may hours must have been spent piecing the individually cut pieces of mother of pearl in to this beautiful snuff bottle. Not to mention the fact that they are also etched with floral and geometric designs! This is a late 19th to early 20th century antique snuff bottle made when the habit of snuff taking was dying out in China - this was made for collectors and foreigners. Most of the mother of pearl snuff bottles were actually made in Japan by this time, and were exported to China to support the shops catering to foreigners doing trade. However there is no doubt that collectors of snuff bottles also remained in China. This snuff bottle measures 3 inches tall (7.5 cm) and is in excellent condition with no damage. Truly a beautiful work of art.
