Excellent flashy Australian Bolder Opal 2 Strand Silver Necklace. A tiny treasure of a Boulder Opal with red, green and blue flashes which I was only able to glimpse with my poor camera skills. Free form Opal doublet is 14.5 x 6.5 mm but oh, the colors that swim in there! Boulder Opal is the lower pendant of this amazing 7 mm mystic blue briolettes two strand Sterling Silver 16 inch necklace. For the second strand, between the mystic brios, I have added a section of steely blue Sterling Silver antique look patina for contrast and texture. The layered necklace shows off the layers for maximum eye appeal. Opal doublets are created when a slice of precious and colorful Opal gemstone is carefully mounted on a same shape piece of ironstone matrix substrate. The face of a doublet shows the color and flashing beauty of the Opal, while the back is speckled dark and provides the contrast to optimize the flash of colors. Opals are formed in geologic time, layers of silica combine with water to create a gemstone whose name means precious jewel. It is recommended that Opals be protected from extremes of heat and cold as well as chemicals and oils, all can dull its fire. Even in the jewel box, this lively gem should be protected from metal scratches. The amazing ability of Opal to catch light and refract it through layers of minute spheres gives the gemstone a flash, sparkle and glow, sometimes in a rainbow of colors. The wonderful Opal layering necklace being offered has 3 different delicate chain links to further catch the light and enhance the look. It shows a tiny bit of Opalescence on the upper half, and lots of Adularescence on the rest. Opalescence refers to the pearl-like milky blue glow akin to the sheen of satin, as opposed to the play-of-light known as adularescence that is seen as light dancing red, blue, green and turquoise. Opal is birthstone for October. Another future Gem Bliss heirloom.
