Ceylon( now known as Sri Lanka) produces the finest all-round Sapphires in the world today in a beautiful array of colors like the ones featured in this top quality necklace. The fascinating colors included are golden yellow, peachy to bright orange and with lots of the rarest of all "PADPARADSCHA" which is the most sought after color, an orange/pink.
Padparadscha sapphire is a special variety of gem corundum, featuring a delicate color that is a mixture of pink and orange – a marriage between ruby and yellow sapphire. Today, padparadscha is narrowly defined by Western gemologists as a Sri Lankan sapphire of delicate pinkish orange color. But the original use of the term was somewhat different. Padparadscha is derived from the Sanskrit/Singhalese padmaraga, a color akin to the lotus flower (Nelumbo Nucifera `Speciosa'). Most lotus blossoms are far more pink than orange, and in ancient times, padmaraga was described as a subvariety of ruby (cf. the Hindu Garuda Purana). Today, some define the gem's color as a blend of lotus and sunset.
There are over 300 micro faceted, full, teardrop briolettes ranging in size from 3.5mm to 5.5mm in length, with spectacular clarity and high luster. An endless display of light and awe inspiring color with 70+ct in total weight. As if that's not enough, nestled between the dazzling sapphires is a 18k gold barrel bead completely surrounded with bezel set white diamonds!
The long 19.75" necklace is finished with a textured 22 high karat toggle closure and 22k beads.
Absolutely fit for a queen, not a fad, but a precious gem, precious metal piece that will surely become an heirloom and bring you joy for many countless years.
