For your consideration is a Victorian Carlsbad (Karlovy Vary) Pietra Dura pin consisting of inlaid natural stones including banded jasper, malachite, banded agate, etc. The stones are carefully cut and set in kaleidoscope designs. The Pietra Dura is bezel set in a gold-plated setting and is encircled by saw-tooth bezel set rose cut garnets. The pin measures 3.1 inches long and 0.9 inches high. Excellent condition.
Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad) is a town in Bohemia famous for its hot springs. This town hit its height during the Austro-Hungarian Empire and was frequented by royalty. This type of Pietra Dura was a souvenir of a visit to Carlsbad and only found in this region of Bohemia. Produced from the mid-19th century until the collapse of the Empire in 1918.
