A fine silk embroidery sampler by Mary Ann Thomas. Circa 1797, New England. Wrought with a central flowering shrub in an urn amongst flying butterflies and two feeding birds, all within a delicate scrolling border of flowering vinery on a beige ground. Embroidered beneath the urn is "Mary.Ann.Thomas" over the date "1797". Mounted beneath a black and gold eglomise glass panel, housed in a gold gilt frame. SIZE: Sight: 16" x 14". Overall: 25-1/2" x 22-1/2". Provenance is from a Corea, ME collection. CONDITION: The silkwork with overall toning of a light tea color. Embroidery generally good, retaining true colors.
