I have always been fascinated by tabletop dinner gongs. Such a different way of life than most of us experienced during our lives. This is a really charming and most unusual table-top dinner gong made from polished brass and solid quartered (quarter sawn) oak. The oak plinth is mounted with a interesting cast brass dog complete with collar. To keep the animal motif going, sitting on top of the gong bar is a brass owl. The strike mallet is stored at the side and when used lets out a ring which should get the servants attention. Circa late Victorian; maybe 1880's or so. The entire piece is in excellent condition. The base measures 7 3/4" x 4 1/2" and stands 8 1/2" tall to top of owl. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
