Beautiful little (8 1 /4") bebe Steiner, Figure C, circa 1884, with blue glass eyes which open and close via a lever in the back of the head.
Luscious bisque, gorgeous facial decoration with closed mouth upturned at the corners, pierced ears, and delicate blushing and painting of the features such as rose eyeshadow and brushstroked eyebrows.
The head is incised: Figure C 4/0 Steiner SGDG Paris. The soles of the shoes are incised with the number 2 and in an oval: L D. Paris.
The tiny bebe is all original,: the muslin chemise with blue sash, the muslin and lace trim cap, the straw bourrelet, The socks and shoes are original also. And, of course her Steiner body, blonde mohair wig, and violet cardboard pate. The doll is all-original, to be brief. The stringing, now loose, needs to be redone.
Figure C is harder to find than Figure A. And Figure C lever eyes is still harder to find.
What is offered here is an antique Figure C lever eyes in tiny size, and in all-original , near-mint condition.
If you are interested in Steiner's dolls, I recommend that you look at Dorothy McGonagle's work , namely The Dolls of Jules Nicolas Steiner, if you haven't already.
From my collection. The dog and the chair are not included in this sale.
