This handsome guy that looks a lot like the original Ken (Barbie’s boyfriend) is the amazing original counter display mannequin for BVD underwear and as a predecessor of Ken, he is totally unique, likely the only surviving one of it’s kind and it’s 100+ years old. I have never seen another one exactly like it, only one with different underwear and with a different pose of the legs.
This is a totally amazing “working doll”, of the male kind that are always harder to find and still has his original underwear.
This is a unique museum quality vintage display item that has survived over a century in great condition in New York city where he was found.
BVD stands for Bradley Voorhees and Day, 3 business men from New York City that founded the company in 1876 and initially manufactured underwear for men and women. It was the brand name till 1976 when it was purchased by fruit of The Loom.
Condition is excellent, has no structural damage, just some superficial age crackling on the top of his head and some very faint age lines on his face, nothing that stands out or takes away from the way he displays in fact it just adds to his charm. The arms can move back and forth, they are not removable.
Measures 26" (66 cm) in height without the stand, 27" (68.5 cm) with his round solid wood stand. 2 prongs fit into his legs and is removable. He is made of some kind of brittle composition material that preceded rubber and is found in most items from it’s period.
