Miniature portrait on paper of young girl in chair circa 1840. The young girl in this seated portrait has a pensive expression. She is seated in a chair with her hand held demurely in her lap. She wears a blue gown with lace at the neck and sleeves in the off shoulder style popular in the 1840’s. Her hairs is parted in the middle and pulled back into what appears to be a bun with flowers at the nape of her neck. Her hair must have some natural curl as strands have escaped at the top and around her face. The portrait is housed in a pressed brass frame with an easel back. The frame is antique but may not be as old as the portrait. The portrait has a slight mark on the bottom near her right hand that looks to be a watermark.
