Vintage firefighter Cairns Bros eagle helmet. Black painted fire helmet with leather front piece featuring HFD in white on a red background. The front piece is attached by a stylized metal eagle. Black fire hats are associated with members of an engine company. Stenciled 21 on back of helmet. This number can represent the year this particular firehouse was organized. Gold FD emblem shield with ladder and hydrant on side of eagle that holds the front piece. Stray mark of red paint on one side. The presence of Chin straps help date the helmet because these were added post World War II. Marked with cloth tag ‘Cairns Sanitary Cushion Lining patents 2 411 678’ and paper label in crown marked ‘Made in U.S.A. 7 ¼ Cairns and Bros, Clifton N.J.’ Decorative helmet in good used condition.

Condition: Good used vintage condition with loss of black paint in areas and scratches. Stray red paint streak on side and dab of white paint on top. Leather front piece in very good condition as is seal on side of stylized eagle.
