Hand sewn antique Victorian bodice jacket in brown satin with boning, cream lace, black velvet and gold braid details. Trim is mainly intact as is lace which has a very few minor imperfections. Brown satin is in very good condition. I original thought the collar was detached on one side but it has hooks that were designed to fasten it down when dressed but the attachments are no longer present. The collar is very high. The inside cream satin has shattered and has become detached in places. This entirely hand sewn item has inserted boning. The construction is amazing. The trim and lace are outstanding. This was an expensive piece of clothing in its day with the elaborate trim and wonderful handmade lace.
This jacket is not wearable do to current condition and is for collection, display or study.
Date: Circa 1890
Size: 11.5 inches across bottom, 29 inches across shoulders, 19.5 inches from neck to bottom, 21 inch sleeves. 32 inch bust when measured underneath armpit.
Condition: AS IS CONDITION. The collar has hooks where it was attached to the dress but the attachments are no longer obvious so the high collar is detached on one side. The interior cream satin has shattered. The brown satin is in excellent shape. The trim and lace are in overall excellent shape with a few small areas of loss to the lace. Please see photos. This item is not wearable due to its great age and condition issues. The handmade lace and trim alone are worth the price despite its condition issues.
