Vintage Egyptian magic coin token. This bronze coin features an Egyptian Pharaoh on one side and a sphinx and pyramids on the obverse side. These coins were first produced in 1905 as watch fobs. In 1922 with the discovery of King Tut’s tomb more of these coins were produced. They were good luck tokens and were sold at carnivals, circuses, Chicago World’s Fair, and as Egyptian souvenirs. They were even given away by magicians during magic shows as good luck tokens. One was even used as a movie prop in the 1946 movie Duel in the sun where Walter Huston gives one to Jennifer Jones as a purity medal. This particular coin is a type 1 coin. This particular coin has a wonderful aged patina and was probably carried for good luck by the previous owner. It is also not perfectly round. These were also manufactured post 1940’s. I believe this one to be from the 1920’s.
