Antique German parian doll with fancy applied Flowers to her hair circa 1880. This 21 inch doll was made by the Dornheim, Koch &Fischer, Porcelain Factory, Grafenroda/Thuringia. The Dorheim factory was founded in 1856. Most doll heads have no markings. Heads can be attributed to this factory due to a few parian heads with molded flowers that were found marked.
This doll features a pale bisque with blue eyes rosy cheeks, dark blonde hair in sausage curls with one large central pink rose surrounded by three blue flowers and four leaves. There are two smaller flower arrangements on either side which consist of two blue flowers and one pink flower with 3 leaves. There is some minor losses to flowers as pictured. These consist of slight losses to leaves and edges, which can be felt but are not noticeable visually. She has a deep shoulder plate and there is not damage to her bisque head. She has bisque lower arms with slight loss to tip of left thumb and index finger, which can be felt when examining her. Please see photo of hand. Her upper arms are leather and her lower body is cloth.
She appears to be wearing her original gown, which was made of satin and is melting. The fabric is very fragile. She is covered in handmade lace and embroidered floral lace. She wears pantaloons with handmade lace and slip with handmade lace. She has detailed hand-knitted lace stockings and heeled satin slippers with flowers and lace. Her dress was a ball gown and has a long train. This was an expensive doll in its day. I prefer her original, fragile gown, which gives her the look of a Miss Haversham. However, the amount of hand made lace on the remains of her outfit could be repurposed into a new gown.
I did not undress this doll due to the originality and fragility of her clothing.
Date: Circa 1880
Size: 21 inches
Condition: Excellent condition to bisque head with minor loss to edges of some leaves and flowers. These are mainly noticeable to the touch. Please see photos. Her original dress is melting and very fragile but is filled with handmade lace, stockings and high- heeled shoes.
