Vintage shaggy mohair German Teddy Bear circa 1930-1950. This teddy has shaggy blonde mohair with inset muzzle of clipped contrasting pale golden plush. He has large flat ears, which are also lined in clipped contrasting golden plush. He has sewn in amber colored glass eyes with black pupils. His nose is horizontally stitched in dark brown. He has felt pads with three stitched black claws. He is loosely stuffed with excelsior. His arms are curved and long with teardrop shaped beige felt pads. His legs are short with small narrow feet. He has wear to both felt pads on paws left greater than right. His right foot pad is in very good condition while his left foot pad has damage and the his excelsior stuffing is exposed.
His body shape, muzzle, ears, eyes and nose are all consistent with 1920-1930 German bear manufacturers such as the Herman factory and other Newstadt Sonneberg companies. Most postwar German bears have vertically stitched noses and larger glass eyes or plastic. It is still possible that he was made in postwar Germany so I am being conservative in his age.
Date: Circa 1930 – 1950
Size 14.5 inches
Condition: Loosely stuffed with excelsior and what feels like wood shavings. Felt on paw pads is very worn with hole in bottom of foot with straw showing through
