Absolutely phenomenal rare brooch hallmarked and signed SILVER MADE IN MEXICO dating from the 1930’s, or perhaps the 1940’s. “Silver Made in Mexico” marks are seen on pieces from the 1920’s thru mid 40’s, their silver standard varies, but is commonly above .925 purity. Tested to be Sterling.
Brooch features oval cabochon glass stones deeply set within individual bezels. Purple glass is deep amethyst in color and the blue with white center pattern glass resembles lovely star sapphires. Pretty hard to find such fabulous art glass stones in jewelry. Each tip of the wings is gently arched upwards, which seems to give a little flight motion, at least in my opinion.
I can’t say enough about this brooch – everything is top notch, artisan work, styling, choice of stones and the size is super large measuring in at 3” L x 2-3/8”. It weighs a very generous 23.7 grams.
Pictures show how gorgeous every aspect of this piece is. I am sure you will agree.
