Outstanding Victorian Cameo Ring. Size 7-1/2
Superbly carved cameo depicts a soldier with a wreath upon his head. It may or may not be a soldier, as I am no history buff. I was informed that it was indeed a Roman soldier. In any case it is a lovely carved cameo, with distinctive facial features, that has been expertly carved.
Not only a piece of lovely jewelry, but also a true work of art.
Photos do not show the cameo nearly as well as I would like. No matter how I shoot this ring or in whatever kind of light, I cannot get the colors or luminescence correct. Tiger Eye changes color as you turn your finger. Sometimes it looks as if the stone is lit from within. Absolutely mesmerizing.
If you think this ring looks good in the photos, then it will absolutely knock you for a loop when you see it in person.
When viewed from either side you can see four plateaus or levels - first are deep horizontal cuts in a rectangular shape at the very base of the ring then four polished squares running north to south then the beveled edge of the stone and finally the deeply raised cameo itself.
Usually stones are set with an open backing. The back of this stone is fully sealed with 10 Karat rose gold. An extra bit of quality workmanship.
Ring has been tested to be at least 10K rose gold.
Measures 1/2 North to south and 1/2" across the plateaus as well. Stone itself measures 3/8 x 1/4".
Ring is in absolute superb antique condition. Stone has no cracks or chips. Just a fabulous old find.
Weighs 2 grams.
