Big Bold Beautiful Brooch composed of alternating rings of mesh and solid circles having three large rectangular faceted cut glass stones. Amethyst center stone is flanked on either side by same sized deep luscious ruby red glass stones. Glass at first looks to be emerald cut, but it is not. Although similar to emerald cut, each piece of glass is faceted on all sides. These facets twinkle a bit and show very nicely when in the light. Depending on the light source, the center stone seems to change in color from amethyst to topaz.
The ruby red glass is a very deep ruby color, not a cherry red by any means. In the shots with the light behind the brooch, you can see that the glass is transparent – it has very nice clarity.
Each stone is prong set. This is a knock your socks off brooch. It is very well made, sturdy and in great condition. There is an itsy bitsy chip (that I noticed when using my loupe) on the center stone. It is the size of pin prick or smaller and not noticeable unless you examine it as closely as I did. I take my photos up close in macro mode. View the photos- it is so hard to notice. I guarantee your complete satisfaction.
Brooch measures 2-5/8" x 1-3/4". This is a high quality, heavy and very well made piece. Back is signed MARVELLA in a raised rectangular cartouche. This dates the piece prior to 1955, as the copyright symbol first appeared after 1955.
This was tested and it is plated with either 10K or 12K gold. Guaranteed to not be less than 10 Karat gold plating.
