Trembler Rhinestone Fly Brooch C: 1940’s
Vintage unsigned brooch is of a fly. It is a trembler brooch – its wings are suspended above the body of the insect and held into place by means of tiny springs. Wings move and flutter with movement. Wings are deeply ridged. You don’t have to be very close to see the detailing.
This gold tone fly is set with pave clear sparkling rhinestones on the top of wings and head. Emerald green rhinestone eyes contrast nicely with the gold tone and clear rhinestones. The design, quality and materials used are top notch all the way. Measures 2” x 1-1/2”.
Condition is excellent. This brooch was very well cared for and has virtually no signs of wear. It appears to be the same as the signed Hattie Carnegie Fly Brooch shown on page 63 of Marcia “Sparkles” Brown Signed Beauties of Costume Jewelry Identification and Values - bottom right corner. Illustration photo does not show this pin from all sides which prevents me from positively identifying it as a Carnegie piece. It could also possibly be a Pauline Rader piece, as both are very similar.
