Figurine is done in two finishes, matte and glazed. Most of the statue is done in matte with the following accentuated with a glazed finish – eyes, collar on girl and apron. These touches truly set this piece apart. This was painstakingly painted by the artist.
The coloring is soft, and yet, distinct. Notice the attention to detail in the faces of the girl and dog as well as her dainty fingers. And the pockets on her apron protrude to give it just a special touch. The facial features are outstanding and the detailing on the apron is amazing.
Figurine measures 7 1/4" in height. Diameter of wooden base is 3 7/8"...
Produced in the Florence Studios in Tuscany, Italy.
Most people think these vintage figurines are porcelain. They sure look like it. But they are not.
Kaolin, which is the main ingredient of porcelain, is also the main ingredient of this figurine. Kaolin gives it hardness. The kaolin is then mixed with resins and then cast. The original Armani sculpture was made from terra cotta clay which was dried and fired. Then a mold was made of this.
Molded pieces come out rough and uneven in places and must be finished entirely by hand. Every piece of Armani Capodimonte was finished entirely by hand including the painting process. No machinery is ever used. This produces an intensely and intricately colored figurine with superb workmanship and remarkable detailing.
Base of girl is marked with the Capodimonte "N" and crown signifying that it was made by the Florence Sculture d'Art in the original Capodimonte tradition.
Tag translates to "The artistic decoration of this piece is executed entirely by hand and in strict accordance with Capodimonte Decoration faite a la main style".
