Great piece of Shawnee Pottery in the shape of a jug complete with cork. Mint condition. Dates from late 1940’s.
This great vintage cookie jar has been painted by hand, so no two are exactly alike. The background is ivory in color. A delightful rich burgundy color (definitely not bright red) has been painted in the shape of a heart as well as the flowers and you can see shades of soft pink peeking through. Flowers have bold brown stems and deep green leaves. The yellow sections of the flowers contain many miniscule teeny itsy bitsy dots, as does the yellow design above the center of the heart. This adds such a super nice touch to this wonderful Cookie Jar or Canister. It’s rare to find one with so many dots accenting the yellow. Almost forgot to mention the inside heart is done in shades of blue. The lid is also trimmed with a band of blue. There is a wee bit of crazing – mostly on the back section near the top. Very little on the front. No chips or cracks. This honey of a jar is in Mint condition.
Bottom is marked USA 75.
Measures about 8” high and 7 ¼” across widest section. In 2004 this piece was listed at $275 to $300 in the Shawnee Pottery Book.
