Beautiful Victorian dresser box or powder jar made by the Meriden Silver Plate Co. The decorative box has embossed flowers on the top and sides and a very sweet putti on the lid. The hinged box was used by the previous owner as a powder jar but would be equally useful as a trinket box or small jewelry box. It is 5 inches high and 4.75 inches across at the bottom. The Meriden backstamp with lion motif indicates quadruple silver plating. The box has a wonderful dark patina with silver showing on the high points of the flowers. Although difficult to know how much of the silver plating remains, the unusual Aesthetic period box is in excellent condition overall and very sweet.
