This striking brooch and earring set was handcrafted in San Miguel De Allende Mexico by the American jewelry designer, Darla Nordstrom. The geometric pattern is eye catching with both triangular and oval shapes in contrasting shiny black and pink stones. We are not certain what the black components are, but possibly onyx or obsidian and the pink stones are rhodonite. The earrings have an added fun twist with the tops and bottoms reversed.
The pieces are large with the brooch measuring 2.625 inches high and 1.75 inches across, and the earrings, 2.5 x .75 inches. The brooch is hinged between the top and second stones and can be worn as either a pin or a pendant. The top and bottom of the earrings are linked with three small rings giving them lots of movement.
The back of the brooch is marked 925 sterling; one of the earrings is marked 925 and the other 925 Darla N. The set has a combined weight of 53.4 grams.
All pieces in this early set are in excellent condition. The point of the pink stone that sits at the top of one of the earrings sits lower in the setting but this is an indication of the hand crafting and does not detract. Both of the pierced earrings are missing the butterfly closures.
