This set of early French fashion plates consists of 9 plates. Each is octagonal in shape and measures 7 inches from top to bottom and 7 inches across. They are cream colored ceramic or earthenware with a black line and embossed circle border. The center of each plate has a wonderful image of a romantic couple wearing early 19th century French fashions. Three of the motifs are repeated on two plates in different color tones and three plates are unique. The sturdy plates are stamped H.B.C.M. France on the underside for the maker, Hippolyte Boulenger-Creil-Montereau, with the retailer's mark and Paris address, Rouard 34 Av de l'opera, and an impressed mark that is difficult to read. Dating from c. 1920's, the plates are in excellent condition with some minor production flaws, wear to the black border, and other minor signs of age or use that do not detract from these fabulous dishes that display beautifully.
