This art nouveau tomato server was made by the American silver company, Alvin, in the discontinued Raphael pattern. The fabulous pattern was introduced in 1902 and features a woman with flowing hair draped in sheer cloth and various floral patterns, including a gorgeous orchid at the base of the handle. This server has a cut out design and saw edge and is exceptionally detailed on both the front and back with deep and crisp embossing. It is approximately six and one half inches long and two and one quarter inches across. The sterling silver server is stamped Alvin Sterling on the back of the handle and has a sturdy weight of 43.7 grams. There is a small fleabite on the edge of the fluted side of the server that does not detract from this magnificent piece of American silver that is otherwise in excellent condition.
