This antique trinket or jewelry box is in the unusual form of a sleigh and we believe it dates from the Edwardian era. It is small, measuring just three and a quarter inches long, one and a half inches wide and one and a half inches high. The metal wirework is quite detailed and attractive on the sides of the box but the original gold wash has largely worn off and the metal has darkened in some areas, and there are dents and a couple of breaks in the delicate wires. The top has a hinged glass piece and the bottom of the case has a thin piece of silvertone metal and a material covered cardboard liner that is torn, faded and frayed. These flaws are all attributed to age and in some ways add to the appeal of this charming box. It would look lovely on an old vanity or dresser to hold pins, earrings, or other small items or as an accessory for your antique dollhouse.
