This is a Wonderful late 19thC to early 20thC Antique Miniature Child Church Rag Cloth Doll Boy in a Suit measuring 6 1/4" tall. Miniature cloth dolls are more like folk art and tell a story of loving hands carefully holding and playing with the doll. Always far from perfect, the early cloth dolls, and miniature ones, are for the collector who fully appreciates the less than perfect nature of the dolls. And the story they are want to tell. Some were made by the child herself. Small miniature size cloth dolls like this one were made by mother or child so that the little girl (or boy) could have something in his or her hands to help pass the time during long church services. This little cutie is only 6 1/4" INCHES tall and is in miniature. This wonderful little doll is a BOY and possibly made for her little boy. He has a one piece machine stitched cotton rag stuffed body and is firm. The form is as if you were to draw a person so it looks like the shape was drawn on the fabric and then cut out and stitched. He has some light brown water coloring for his hair, front and back of his head, blue eyes with darker circles around around the eye, and a big pink smile. The clothing is hand stitched with weak areas to the wool. He has painted tan shoes and somewhat painted brown stockings. There are some stains and soiling appropriate for the age of the doll. As a reminder, this doll is 6 1/4" tall only and fits in the palm of your hand as it would have for a child. I love miniature cloth church dolls and this one is from my collection.
