This is a wonderful C1840 or prior American Schoolgirl Family Record for the Town(e) Family who lived in Pawlet, Hubbardton, and Pittsford, Vermont and then Moriah and Hampton, New York. This American Schoolgirl Record is a piece of folk art pen and ink to paper all hand done (not printed). All the work was done in oak gall ink on paper (now aged) and you can even see the tiny scribe lines laid down for the design and lettering. This Family Record measures 10" x 8 1/4" including the 1" frame. The frame itself is early and may be the original one when it was framed. It has early tiny square nail construction, an very nice patinated surface and early glass with bubbles.I have researched this family at Family Search and you can to (William Town/Towne born 23 December, 1797 Hebron Twp, Washington, New York, look under Pedigree). The dates on the family record and the research match exactly. I found the whole family including the thirteen children, two of whom, Ellin and Martha, were twin girls living 6 days. The Family record is signed "By R.W.". The parents are William Town and Ch(r)istian White who were married Dec.27, 1820 when she was 19 and he was 23. Their 13 children were born between 1821 and 1844. Many of the death dates are on the Family Search information. Much more research can be done on this fascinating Family Record and this family. The condition is appropriate for the age and has no tears or repairs. I have not taken it out of the frame and do not intend to. I like to leave things in original condition. The calligraphy is extraordinary and finely detailed with a beautiful execution. This would have been done in an academy under teacher tutelage.
