This is a 18th Century Primitive Wooden Mortar and Pestle Lathe Turned Natural Dark Patina. From New England. You can see that the base bottom has been hand turned on a lathe, as well as the turnings to the base, top edge and scribe marks to the bowl. Both the base and the bowl have 1/4 inch wide splits from age. The wood has the natural dark attic finish patina from age. It appears that both the mortar and pestle may have always been together. The mortar measures 6 1/2 inch tall and 5 1/4 inch diameter across the top edge to edge. The pestle is 9 1/2 inch long.
