This is an Old Composition Cloth Chinese Doll Pair Boy Girl 15 Inch Massachusetts Estate. These dolls are directly from the Dyer Family homestead in Plainfield, Massachusetts. Laura G. Dyer MD was a Fu Chow China missionary from 1916 to 1948. During WWII she was interred by the Japanese in China until the end of the war. It is possible that the dolls were purchased in China and brought back home to Plainfield by Laura herself. The estate included the items from several generations some previous to Laura. This pair measures 15 inches tall and have a composition head and lower limbs while the body and upper limbs are firmly stuffed cloth. The composition heads are beautifully made and hand painted. There is some obvious composition loss to the noses and lip, as well as some minor paint loss to two of the fingers. The fingernails are painted a lighter pale color. The boy has no hair but may have had a cap at one time. The girl has black human hair that is sparse in front. The colorful clothing consists of embroidered silk.
