This is an Old Victorian Sewing Scissors Rest Pin Cushion Handstitched Needlework Tool Shaker Community Sewing Collectible. Made by the Shakers in the 1800s. The United Society of Believers were a primarily 19th century religious society that became known as "the Shakers" because of the trembling and shaking of the members during prayer. Among other things, they produced many many sewing items to be sold to the outside world. Most people believe that these Shaker cushions were for needles and pins, but actually they were meant to rest your scissors on for ease of use. This scissors rest is all hand-sewn and made of colorful woven wool tape. It measures 4-1/4 inches long. These Shaker sewing items are getting really hard to find.
