This is an 18th Century C1780 Pair Black Spot Paste Shoe Buckles Pair Gold Silver Hand Wrought. The glittering black dot foiled paste stones are beautiful with each one having two tiny black dots at the center bottom. The black dots gave more dimension to the stone and duplicated the look of diamonds. The stones do not look yellowed in real life and have a consistency of color. I have given the buckles a light brushing but may need cleaning. The shoe buckles are a pair but they are not exactly identical. They appear to have been made this way as they were all hand wrought. The paste stones are not set exactly the same particularly the corners. One buckle is missing a corner stone. The interior bezel edge appears to have a thin band of rose gold and the back has hinged metal tines. Please notice the hand wrought metal heart-shape in the center. The back has a white metal silver frame. The buckles measure 3 inches long and 2 inches wide. There are no hallmarks. The buckles are gorgeous with a high degree of craftsmanship. This is a very EARLY pair of shoe buckles, Georgian Era, from the 18th century, and they are beautifully made.
