This is a 1939 New York Worlds Fair Tourist Doll Heidi From Switzerland Compo 16in Rare. She is from the series called "1939 New York World's Fair" made by the Doll Craft Company, produced and sold to advertise the fair at nearby stores and also at the fair. She is the more unusual and rare 16-17 inches size as the 8 inch size was more common. The company produced these costume dolls that represented about 35 countries (that have been identified and represented) in the 8 inch size and only about 8 in the 16-17 inch size to date. Heidi is unmarked and retains her “I am Heidi from Switzerland” wrist hang tag. For reference, see Modern Collectible Dolls Volume V by Patsy Moyer pages 141-144. Her composition is in good condition, the stringing is tight she has all her face paint and has a partial mohair wig that was only meant to show in the front of the doll’s face. The rest of the head would be covered by the hat and was not wigged. Her original costume clothing has some fading to it in the front, and some minor aging to the color at the top of the hat. The black leatherette shoes and hose are also original. Her facial features are hand painted and include brown eyes and painted lashes. Interestingly she has dimples to her cheeks. No odor. A very interesting doll.
