This is a 19thC Antique Painted Cloth Rag Doll Pink Dress Head Gusset Striped Legs 17 Inches. This wonderful cotton twill cloth rag doll may have been a pattern doll because she has the characteristic head gusset. It appears that her facial features were painted with water color paint while her blond hair (what remains of it) was done with oils. Please note the staining around the mouth and nose where she received lots of kisses. The firm cotton-stuffed body was treadle machine stitched, jointed at the shoulders, hips, and knees. She has been stitched repaired to both sides of her neck. The lower legs are made of blue and white striped fabric to resemble stockings while her dark gold-colored feet are velvet (wear to the toes and soles). Her body has some staining as you would expect. The hands are mitts with opposing thumb and stitched fingers. Her clothing consists of her original treadle machine stitched pink calico dress (faded), white cotton lace-trimmed half-slip, and white cotton pantaloons. She has good proportions and presence.
