This is a Simon & Halbig S & H German Bisque Shoulderhead Doll measuring 8 inches tall. She is wearing her original intricate Victorian silk bustle gown which is stitched to her. It is difficult to see her markings on the back of the shoulder plate and was impossible to photograph since the neckline fits her tightly. I believe the marking is S & H with the S more visible than the H. She has a fancy red hair wig (original??) made of mohair that has intricate braiding in the back and she does not have a cardboard pate but a fabric one. The wonderful blue and black silk bustle gown is beautifully detailed and the back is elongated to form a train. The silk has deterioration though, mostly to the front and back of the skirt and to the sleeves. This is as you would expect from silk of that period. Black ribbon trims the waist and the right shoulder. Underneath, she has two white lace petticoats and white pantaloons. The gown and train are lined in cream color wool challis. She has bisque lower limbs with painted light blue high button boots. It is unclear if her body is original because not much of it is viewable. Her facial detail consists of a painted closed mouth, dark pupil glass inset eyes, red nose dots, cheek blush, one stroke brown eyebrows and long feathery upper and lower eyelashes. Any repairs etc. are hard to determine as the clothing covers her body.
