This is an Antique C1900 Black Folk Art Stockinette Cloth Rag Doll 17.5 Inch Embroidered Mouth Teeth Cloth Braids. This folk art Black Stockinette Rag Doll is really wonderful. Her braided hair treatment resembles the dolls produced by Anne Maxwell who patented her rag dolls in 1915. She is all hand-stitched and firmly rag-stuffed. Her features include 2 Mother of Pearl button eyes, embroidered lips and teeth, and a little stuffed knob for a nose with embroidered nostrils. Other embroidery includes a pendant necklace, bracelets on the wrists, and stockings. Her wig is the interesting detail with yarn fringe around the face while the rest of the wig is black stockinette ending in two long braids. One arm is shorter than the other but is exaggerated by the slope and point of the shoulders. The legs are attached but are not hinged for sitting. The shoes are leatherette and her tan and brown striped cotton dress are all original to the doll. There are no holes except one at her back waist about the size of a dime. She is really fabulous!
