This is an 18thC New England Primitive Finger Lap Pantry Box Old Red Milk Paint Wash Rosehead Nails. This large 18th century New England wooden pantry box has hand forged rosehead nails holding the long fingered laps and the remains of old red milk paint or milk paint wash. This is an extraordinary EARLY pantry box. The stock is thick as it would have to be to assemble a box this size. The rest of the box has wooden shoe pegs holding it together (five of them have gone missing from aging to the wood). Part of the bottom has been very carefully glued for stabilization. There are no cracks or splits. This box is a good size measuring a large 12 inches in diameter and 5 inches tall. Good authentic 19thC New England pantry boxes are hard enough to find and this one is from the 18th century. Found locally in New England.
