This is a C1930s Primitive Black Americana Folk Art Mammy Cloth Rag Bottle Doll Doorstop 13 Inch. Bottle dolls were made during the 1930s as doorstops. These unique and one of a kind dolls were often made of black stockings (usually faded to brown through the years) and a bottle filled with sand or something heavy as the base. Very often they had embroidered faces and other charming details showing off the makers creativity. This 13 inch doll is a nice example with embroidered features and flowered feedsack print fabric for the dress. The head is the tip of a black stocking while the rest of the stocking covers the bottle. The arms are an oilcloth type of material. The apron is trimmed with crocheted lace. The bottle is filled with sand and is heavy.
