This is a Kalevala Koru Sterling Silver Pin that is Marked KK/Made in Finland. Founded in 1935, Kalevala Koru specialized in the production of historic jewelry pieces which were quality reproductions of ancient jewelry discovered on many archaeological sites in Finland. The motifs on the Kalevala jewelry date back as far as the iron age (pre 400AD), the prosperous Viking age (800-1025) and some into the 19th century. This pin tests positive for sterling silver content and it has all the original patina and oxidation. I have not cleaned the piece as cleaning would de-value the piece greatly. It has a crown on the top with moveable oval dangles down below. It has a four petal flower embossed on the very top oval shape hardly seen now. And the piece looks to have been pressed from one sheet of silver and then curved around. It has the tube hinge and c-clasp closure with no repairs (because of the nature of the clasp design, the pin stem does not sit in the c clasp very tightly). The pin measures 1 7/8" long (45mm) and 1 1/4" wide. And it weighs 8.2 grams. Beautifully made.
