This is a Wonderful late 19thC to early 20thC Antique Miniature Child Church Rag Cloth Doll in her Blue Calico Skirt measuring 9" tall. Miniature cloth dolls are more like folk art and tell a story of loving hands carefully holding and playing with the doll. Always far from perfect, the early cloth dolls, and miniature ones, are for the collector who fully appreciates the less than perfect nature of the dolls. And the story they are want to tell. Some were made by the child herself. Small miniature size cloth dolls like this one were made by mother or child so that the little girl (or boy) could have something in his or her hands to help pass the time during long church services. This little cutie is only 9" INCHES tall and is in miniature. I owned this doll once a long time ago and several years ago, I bought her back. This wonderful doll is beautifully made with a one piece rag stuffed cloth body, the remains of old porcelain arms with soft stuffed cloth for most of the arm and porcelain which is basically the hand. She is somewhat jointed at the hip and will sit a little bit but is basically a standing doll. Beautifully made hand stitched fabric is stitched to the head for brown hair. This little lovely has an embroidered face and is wearing her original red print cotton blouse and deep indigo blue calico skirt that is stitched or pinned to her. Hand stitched pantaloons and white half slip complete her undergarments which are also fixed to her. Back stockinette is around her legs and the shoes are stitched black cotton fabric. There are some stains and soiling appropriate for the age of the doll. Wonderful doll. As a reminder, this doll is 9" tall only and fits in the palm of your hand as it would have for a child. I love miniature cloth church dolls and this one is from my collection.
