This 4 inch long Pocket Watch holder has a chain that is 5 inches long. The way that this is used is there is a hook on the back of the top of the main watch chain. This hook is put on your vest pocket or other pocket. The longer chain has a swivel that you put the watch stem so it won't fall. Then the watch that is attached to the chain in put in your pocket. When you want the watch --you pull the chain out and there is the watch. Protected and can't lose it. The front part of the watch chain is usually decoration on the vest or where ever you decide to put your watch. This watch chain has a ladder like decoration and a nice fob at the end. The fob has the initials HJS in fancy script. A lovely piece of early America!
