This is the oldest piece of Black Hill Gold I have ever seen. Even before they especially marked it Black Hills Gold. The Legend is that this Frenchman (who made Gold Jewelry) came over here in 1849 to find gold and on his way west, he got lost in the Black Hills of South Dakota. He wandered for days with no water or food and fell and had a vision, he saw running water and grape leaves and grapes. He woke up and went a little farther and found water and Grapes, He stay there and made gold jewelry with green and rose and yellow gold with grapes and grape leaves! They called him Potato Creek Johnny. And that why Black hills Gold is made the way it is. This is an old 12K Bar with grape leaves and twisting vine. I bar weighs 9.01g but so pretty and old. It has an old safety pin closure. This is really history in this brooch. It is 2 1/4 inch long and almost 1/2 wide. I don' t think that Potato Creek Johnny made this but I think he dreamed about it.
