The box is fully covered in niello decorations in checkers pattern. The box bears a well-done monogram with a crown over it which was usually used by royal families. It also bears an inscription August 1882 and hallmarks: a maker's mark and a Diana's head in a six-sided cartouche which was used in Austria to denote 90% silver purity.
