The dish consists of two pieces. The main dish features beautiful rim decorations and intricate handles. It is hallmarked on the bottom with a Mercury head used in France to denote 80% silver purity and that it was made for export. It also bears a hallmark VB for a French maker V. Boivin working at the end of 19th century. The insert dish is cut ornately to fit the main dish. The insert dish doesn't bear any hallmarks but seems to be made of silver as well. The condition is excellent, just a few tiny nicks, some tarnish spots and small wear scratches mostly on the inner bowl (see image). Both pieces are made of heavy gauge silver. Both bowls are square shaped. The main dish is 12.0 inches wide with handles, and 8.5 inches wide without handles. It is 2 1/8 inches tall. Weight: 23.5 oz. The inner dish has width: 7 1/4 inches, height: 1 3/4 inches, weight: 12.2 oz. Total weight of the set: 35.7 oz. Beautiful and very well-made set!
